ABOUT CHESLATTA CARRIER NATION

Cheslatta Carrier Nation (CCN) is a First Nations community of 350 members located 25 km south of Burns Lake in BC’s northern interior. CCN’s Core Territory encompasses the Nechako Reservoir and includes portions of Tweedsmuir and Entiako Provincial Parks.

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Executive Assistant to Chief and Council provides high-level administrative support, helping to ensure the effective operation of leadership functions. This role involves managing communications, coordinating meetings, maintaining records, and liaising with government agencies, partners, and community members. The successful candidate will be organized, respectful of Indigenous governance structures, and capable of handling sensitive information with discretion.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct administrative support to Chief and Council, including calendar management, meeting coordination, and travel arrangements.

  • Prepare agendas, take minutes, and track action items for Council meetings and other key gatherings.

  • Serve as a liaison between Chief and Council and community members, government officials, and other stakeholders.

  • Draft correspondence, reports, briefing notes, and presentations as required.

  • Maintain organized filing systems for confidential and official documents.

  • Ensure timely communication and follow-ups on leadership decisions.

  • Support the planning and coordination of community events, engagements, and consultations.

  • Supervise and support Front Desk staff.

  • Other office responsibilities as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS

  • Certificate or diploma in Office Administration, Public Administration, or related field.

  • 3–5 years’ experience in office administration, including 1–2 years at an executive support level.

  • Experience supervising staff is an asset.

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent time management and attention to detail.

  • Ability to record professional minutes and handle confidential information.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable with basic IT troubleshooting.

  • Genuine respect for Cheslatta culture, traditions, and governance.

  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License and reliable transportation.

  • Full-time hours with some evening or weekend work as required.

  • Office-based with occasional travel to attend meetings or community events.
