Pondosy Bay Resort

Pondosy Bay Resort is the ultimate get-away for fishermen, sightseers, and those who love canoeing or kayaking.  Nestled on the shore of pristine Eutsuk Lake in Tweedsmuir Park, British Columbia largest provincial park. (‘Ootsik – meaning: “the call of the loon” in the Cheslatta Carrier language). Lurking in the depths of the crystal-clear waters, roam giant rainbow trout.  It is not unusual to catch a 10 to 12 pounder!

The resort is near the world-famous Tweedsmuir Provincial Park with the fabulous Coast Mountains as a backdrop. Pondosy Bay is accessible only by boat or floatplane and fills up fast for the spring, summer and fall seasons, so make sure to book ahead.

CHICKIMIN BAY PORTAGE

Cheslatta has a 10-year contract with BC Parks to operate and maintain the portage between Whitesail Lake and Eutsuk Lake at the entrance to Tweedsmuir Park.  The portage takes boats between Eutsuk Lake in the park to Whitesail Lake in the reservoir. ‘Eutsuk’ is carrier/dakelh for the sound made by a loon.

CHESLATTA FORESTRY

The Cheslatta Carrier Nation has been in the forestry business for over two decades, and it is the mainstay of the nation’s economic development program. Cheslatta Forestry offers services such forest planning, fiber access, harvesting, and hauling. Cheslatta Forestry works with trusted partners to provide reforestation and wildfire mitigation services. Whether your forestry needs are in Cheslatta territory or in other areas throughout Central BC, you can count on Cheslatta Forestry to meet your needs and maintain the highest standards of forest management and practices.

Cheslatta manages its own Community Forest (COMFOR) since it was awarded by the Province of BC in 2002. It covers approximately 40,000 hectares. CCN maintains sustainable and environmentally sound forest practices.  It provides jobs to Cheslatte members and local contractors.  It is an important fibre source for mills in the region. It was one of the very first Community Forests awarded to a first nation after a policy was changed to allow FNs to manage CFs.  This year CCN planted over one million seedlings.

Another important part of CCN Forestry is the rehabilitation of the 2018 Wildfire areas in Cheslatta territory. About 75% of the Cheslatta Watershed was impacted by the 2018 fires.  CCN is rehabilitating fire guards and conducting archeological work as they go. Forestry continues to be the mainstay of the Cheslatta economy. CCN looks forward 80-100 years when it considers its forestry future and considers the needs of future generations.  CCN Forestry also manages Cheslatta’s private lands with a view to how best to use and manage these lands for future prosperity and economic development.

CHESLATTA MARINE SERVICES

Cheslatta territory is filled with lakes, rivers, and streams and to get around, you will need to travel by water. Whether your project is forestry, mineral exploration, or infrastructure maintenance, Cheslatta Marine Services will get your crews and equipment to your project site safely and efficiently. Cheslatta members who work at Cheslatta Marine Services know the waterways in their territory better than anyone else. They know the seasons and the weather that comes with each season and pilot a variety of marine vessels. Do not trust your marine transportation needs to anyone else.

In the past 10 years Cheslatta has become the primary marine contractor in the Ootsa Lake area (Over 300 kilometers of waterways). CCN has acquired a fleet of vessels and barges to provide a variety of marine services.  CCN’s Marine Services division operate crew boats that ferry workers back and forth to project sites.  CCN has a long-term agreement with Rio Tinto about Reservoir Stewardship Agreement which covers debris management, water quality & environmental management. CCN has become the eyes & ears around the reservoir and utilizes its expertise for the benefit of everyone.

One of the special marine projects includes Caribou management around the reservoir. Woody debris floats up on shore and impacts the calving grounds for the Caribou.

CCN Marine Services also provides services on Cheslatta Lake and was active in the recovery of human remains found on the shore of the Cheslatta Lake this spring.

Cheslatta Training Center

In today’s complex world of business and major projects, the common denominator is a need for well-trained employees who focus on safety and project success. The Cheslatta Training Center provides a full range of training and employee job readiness education and certifications.

Constructed in 2017, in partnership with RTA and other local industries, the Cheslatta Training Center is in full partnership with the College of New Caledonia offer a diverse range of training and education courses including upgrading, industrial certification tickets, post secondary degree ciriculum courses. The Centre has a state-of-the-art video system that allows trainers outside the territory to support Cheslatta learners and a computer bank complete with high-speed internet.

KEMANO SITE SERVICES + T2 PROJECT

One of the most positive benefits of the New Day Agreement signed earlier this year between the Cheslatta Carrier Nation and Rio Tinto is the project and employment opportunities for Cheslatta members and the nation. Kemano Site Services is one of the early success stories from the New Day Agreement. Kemano Site Services is a Cheslatta owned business that employs Cheslatta members and others to provide a range of services at Rio Tinto’s Kemano Generating Station. Rio Tinto’s 2nd Tunnel Project requires highly skilled employees and services, and Cheslatta’s Kemano Site Services has stepped up.

CCN had this project prior to the signing of the New Day Agreement with RT but since the signing of the agreement in February… CCN has seen its share of the project work increase substantially.

Spillway Management

Cheslatta is involved in the operation of the spillway, management of the Spillway Campsite, maintenance of the spillway and reservoir monitoring.  The belt upgrade project is also part of this work.
