Background and Context
The Ne-Too Culture History Information Project (CHiP) is a community-led initiative undertaken by the Four Nations of Cheslatta, Nadleh Whutʼen, Saik’uz and Stellat’en to document and preserve the history, knowledge, technical data and experiences associated with the Ne Too Infrastructure Project areas and the broader impacts resulting from hydroelectric development and associated alterations to the Nechako River system. CHiP complements the Ne Too Project and its accompanying Pre-Feasibility Study (PFS) by examining the social, economic, cultural, and environmental changes experienced by the Four Nations following the initial construction of the Kenney Dam diversion and the Skins Lake Spillway.
CHiP seeks to assemble and professionally organize this information in a consistent manner that respects each Nation's knowledge systems while supporting a collaborative approach across all Four Nations. Information compiled through CHiP will assist in identifying areas of historical and cultural importance and contribute to the development of recommendations for long-term restoration measures.
