General Manager

Position Summary
The General Manager is a senior executive role within Cheslatta Carrier Nation (CCN), responsible for the day-to-day operational leadership and administration of the Nation. The General Manager oversees all CCN departments and programs, ensures effective delivery of services to members, manages staff and operational resources, and supports Chief and Council in implementing strategic direction. The General Manager fosters a positive, accountable, and culturally grounded workplace that reflects CCN’s values and advances the well-being of the Cheslatta community.
Key Responsibilities
Organizational Leadership & Operations
Provide day-to-day operational leadership across all CCN departments, including Health, Natural Resources, Education, Economic Development, Finance, and Administration.
Ensure all departmental programs and services are delivered effectively, efficiently, and in alignment with CCN’s strategic priorities and approved budgets.
Develop, implement, and review organizational policies, procedures, and work plans in consultation with Chief and Council.
Foster a collaborative, accountable, and respectful workplace culture that reflects Cheslatta values and traditions.
Human Resources & Supervision
Directly supervise department Managers and Coordinators reporting to the GM, including, Natural Resources Manager, Health Department staff, Community Health Workers, Band Designate worker, Wellness Staff, Events Coordinator, Language Coordinator and contracted Health Service providers.
Oversee CCN’s human resources functions, including recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and employee relations.
Ensure compliance with CCN’s employment policies, confidentiality requirements, applicable employment standards legislation, and occupational health and safety requirements.
Support the professional development of staff and foster a positive team environment.
Financial Oversight
Work collaboratively with the Director of Finance to ensure sound financial management and stewardship of CCN’s operational resources.
Review departmental budgets, monitor expenditures, and report on financial performance to Chief and Council.
Seek grants and support grant application processes and funder reporting in collaboration with relevant department managers.
Strategic & Council Support
Provide operational advice and briefings to Chief and Council to support informed decision-making.
Implement Council decisions and resolutions in a timely and effective manner.
Prepare and present operational reports, recommendations, and updates at Council meetings as required.
Coordinate with the Senior Policy Advisor and Economic Development Officer on matters involving external relations, negotiations, and strategic initiatives.
Community & Stakeholder Relations
Serve as a key point of contact for CCN members, funders, and government and industry partners on operational matters.
Maintain and build relationships with key partners, including ISC, FNHA, provincial agencies, and Tribal Councils.
Represent CCN at relevant meetings, forums, and intergovernmental tables as directed by Chief and Council.
Qualifications
Education
Post-secondary education in public administration, business administration, Indigenous governance, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
Additional training or certification in management, project management, or human resources is an asset.
Experience
Significant experience (typically 7+ years) in a senior management or organizational leadership role, preferably within a First Nations governance or public sector context.
Demonstrated experience supervising multi-disciplinary teams and managing complex operations.
Experience with government funding, grant reporting, and Indigenous program delivery.
Familiarity with First Nations governance structures, including Band Council Resolutions, policy development, and intergovernmental relations.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Strong leadership, decision-making, and organizational management skills.
Sound knowledge of First Nations governance, community services, and applicable federal and provincial legislation.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports and present effectively to Chief and Council and external partners.
High degree of initiative, sound judgment, and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Commitment to the principles of reconciliation and to the betterment of the Cheslatta community.
Knowledge of Dakelh (Carrier) language and culture is a significant asset.
Working Conditions
Full-time, generally Monday to Friday; hours may vary based on operational requirements and Council needs.
Position is salaried; no entitlement to overtime pay.
Travel within BC may be required.
Operates from the CCN office, Danskin, BC, with occasional remote work as operationally appropriate.
Compensation & Benefits
Annual salary as set out in the Employment Agreement, reviewed periodically.
Participation in CCN’s standard employee group benefit plan, subject to plan terms.
Vacation entitlement in accordance with CCN’s Vacation Policy.
