Week 1: Non-Timber Forest Resources Course

Last week, Cheslatta members and participants gathered on the land for the first session of the Non-Timber Forest Resources course, a 3-week field-based course offered in community at Cheslatta in partnership with Royal Roads University.

Week 1's focus was on morel mushroom hunting: learning how to identify, locate, and sustainably harvest mushrooms and plants. Weeks 2 and 3 will look at digital resource mapping creation and wild food collection, processing, and preservation with berries and other wild foods.

The program gives members the chance to earn university credits while gaining practical experience, opening doors to future opportunities while strengthening our ties to the land.
