Cheslatta's Wildfire Stewardship Featured on CTV News
Cheslatta’s commitment to community safety and land stewardship was recently highlighted in a CTV News story on Indigenous-led wildfire mitigation efforts across B.C.
Our Forestry Coordinator, Logan Wilson, was interviewed as part of the piece, which focused on the growing interest in returning to traditional fire stewardship practices, such as cultural burns, as a proactive way to reduce wildfire risk. The news segment also featured footage captured by our forestry team earlier this spring in South Ootsa, in the Table Mountain area.
We're proud of the work our Natural Resources and Forestry Department does each year to monitor wildfires and keep our members and community safe. Our team tracks conditions daily and continues to explore both modern and traditional tools to protect the land, including the potential for future cultural burns, done in collaboration with researchers and the BC Wildfire Service.
We invite you to watch the news story below and learn more about how Indigenous knowledge is shaping the future of forest management in B.C.
