Category 2 & 3 Open Fire Prohibition In Effect For Our Fire Zone

In alignment with the latest directives from the Ministry of Forests and the BC Wildfire Service, we are announcing a significant fire ban that impacts our community and the broader areas within the Bulkley and Nadina Fire Zones. This ban takes effect at 12:00 (noon) Pacific Daylight Time on Thursday, March 28, 2024, and encompasses both Category 2 and Category 3 open fires.

What is Prohibited?

  • Burning of one to two piles no larger than two meters high and three meters wide or burning stubble or grass over an area less than 0.2 hectares.

  • Any burning of one or more windrows.

  • Burning of stubble or grass over an area greater than 0.2 hectares.

  • Use of fireworks and sky lanterns.

These measures are crucial for preventing human-caused wildfires and ensuring the safety of our community and the surrounding environment.

What is Still Allowed?

  • Campfires that are a half-meter high by a half-meter wide or smaller.

  • Cooking stoves using gas, propane, or briquettes.

Please Note: This ban applies to all BC Parks, Crown lands, and private lands within our jurisdiction but does not affect areas within local governments that have forest fire prevention bylaws and are serviced by a fire department.

Duration: This prohibition is in effect until 12:00 (noon) PDT, September 28, 2024, unless otherwise notified.

Violating these fire bans can result in a ticket for $1,150, an administrative penalty of up to $10,000, or, if convicted in court, fines up to $100,000 and/or one year in jail. Additionally, anyone causing a wildfire may be liable for all firefighting and associated costs, including damages.

Our Collective Responsibility:

We urge all members to respect these restrictions and contribute to our shared efforts in wildfire prevention. For those planning any activities that may impact the environment, please adjust your plans accordingly and ensure all fires are extinguished by the designated time.
